Chapter Overview
This chapter demonstrates how Delphix enables developers to rapidly refresh their applications. You will be logging into a simulated production environment to make changes on the project management application, representing the continual change of data in production systems. Next, you will validate that you do not see those changes in the development instance of the application. You will then log in to Delphix and refresh the development instance application. Finally, you will validate that your development instance of the application now contains your latest changes from "production". This chapter shows just how easy it is for developers to gain access to fresh, production data in their environments by using Delphix.
Chapter Guide
Introduce Some Changes to Production
1) First we will be logging in to the production application, the APEX Source, and making changes to the production application.
2) Click the Production Instance link from your Delphix Trial email.
<insert picture here>
3) Log in to the Production application instance with the Production Application credentials provided from the Free Trial Credentials on the main page.
4) After you login, your screen should look like this. This is the main page of the project management application.
5) Feel free to navigate around the mock application as much as you'd like. Eventually, head to the "Projects" tab so we can demonstrate making real changes to the production application. On the Projects page, let's click 'Curate Cat Videos'. This is the project you are going to update.
6) The first update you will make will be closing a task. Select the edit pencil icon on the "Scour the Youtubes" task.
7) Change "Completed?" to "Yes" and then click save.
8) Should should now see the task is marked as complete. Next, you will add a personalized comment to the project. Click the "+" in the Comments section to add a new comment.
9) In the Comment Text section, add whatever comment you like. Then click Create.
10) Refresh your browser to display your comment. You should see your comment listed at the top of the Comments section.
11) In the navigation pane on the left, click Home. You should see that the the "Curate Cat Videos" project now has 1 completed task.
Refresh Development From Production
1) Now you will login to the development instance of the application.
2) Click the Development Instance link from your Delphix Trial email.
3) Log in to the development application instance with the credentials provided from the main page.
4) After you login, your screen should look like this. This is the main page of the project management application.
5) Log in to the Development application instance with the Development Application credentials provided from the Free Trial Credentials on the main page.
6) Validate the changes you made to the production instance are not reflected here. This is because the development instance's data is from an older version of production.
7) Now, we show just how easy it is to get the latest, production-like data in your non-production environments. Login to the Delphix Engine using the Delphix Development credentials provided from the Free Trial Credentials on the main page
8) This the Delphix Jetstream interface for the Development Instance. <Insert some explainer text her to tell them what they are looking at>
9) Now, simply hit the REFRESH icon button in the task bar
10) Then click the REFRESH button to complete the refresh.
11) This refresh will take a couple of minutes, so just hang tight for this operation to complete!
12) If you refresh the browser containing your development application instance while the job is running, the page will show that the application is down. This is because Delphix has automatically stopped the application while it is restoring the data and will automatically restart it once the data is ready again.
13) Once the refresh is complete, refresh the browser containing your development application instance and login. Now you will see that your development instance has all the latest changes that you entered into your production instance.
14) Click around the application and you will see all the changes you made in the production environment. With Delphix, it was as easy as logging in and clicking one button (Refresh) to have the latest data in your development environment! This shows just how rapidly you can refresh your applications to be as up to date as possible.
