The Delphix Engine is a revolutionary technology which accelerates and automates database and application management tasks. With the adoption of Agile and Lean methods in software development, and Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) in Test Data Management (TDM) and IT operations, data professionals have to find ways to drastically speed up critical tasks such as database cloning, non-production database migrations, and database upgrades.

After virtual data is provisioned, the Delphix Masking Engine enables secure masking of data being provisioned for development and testing.

Before you begin, please take a quick look at the Glossary of Major SQL Server Concepts used in Delphix as well as the Glossary for Major Delphix Concepts. You can refer back to these pages for a deeper understanding of Delphix specific terms.

In the following sections, we will discuss the high-level Logical Architecture for Delphix within your data center or hosting environment, or within the Amazon Web Services Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud.

Then, we will discuss the security issues and different configurations that are possible for Delphix in Multi-domain Windows Environments.

We will also walk through each of the steps of data virtualization for SQL Server, including the initial load and subsequent upkeep of data within Delphix, along with all the amazing things you can do with that data, such as:

  • Provision virtual databases, as well as refreshing and rewinding them
  • Customize Delphix to include your own private functionality within these operations
  • Transform data ready for use

Finally, we will discuss what happens within an IT organization where these tasks are completed in less time than it would take to create and fill out the service request to initiate it. At that point, the only obvious course of action is to get rid of the intermediary steps and enable these tasks as self-service, using Delphix Self-Service.
